The Village of Long Grove is grateful to all individuals who volunteer their time and their talents to serve the community – to continually make it a wonderful place to live, work and raise a family. For this reason, the Long Grove Legacy webpage was created – to honor individuals who have contributed to the Village in a variety of ways. This could include serving on the Village Board, a commission, or a committee, being a member of a nonprofit organization that serves Long Grove, owning a Long Grove business, or other ways that the quality of life has been improved through the contributions of these individuals.

If you know of someone who has served the Long Grove community, please click here to fill out the Long Grove Legacy Submission form. You will be asked to answer questions about the person, upload a photo, and provide a summary (350 words or less) of what this person has given to improve the Village, and/or how the Village has benefited.

Remembering and Celebrating Tony Berg

Anton (Tony) Berg, age 102 years, passed away on January 26, 2021, after a very full life. Tony served Long Grove for 13 years as Village Superintendent and was on the board of Kildeer Countryside School District for some years. Tony was a member of the Long Grove Volunteer Fire Department and served as its President. He was also the President of the Long Grove Historical Society, as was his wife, Gwen. Quote from a Village of Long Grove resident, “Tony and Gwen were pillars of Long Grove in its early years; truly a Village treasure.”

Remembering and Celebrating Barbara (Reed) Turner

Beloved Long Grove resident Barbara (Reed) Turner passed away on April 9, 2020, at the age of 100.

Barbara is familiar to most people in the Long Grove area as the namesake of Reed-Turner Woodland Preserve, a natural treasure of woodland, ravine, sedge meadow, creek, pond, stream, wildflowers, and wildlife. Barbara grew up in this area and later donated her family’s land as a nature preserve. Her colorful history and generous legacy to Long Grove extends well beyond Reed-Turner Woodland.
