The Village of Long Grove has a unique blend of state, county, local and private roadways throughout the Village. There are approximately 29 miles of roadways that are owned and maintained by the Village and there are several privately owned local roads. The privately-owned roadways are owned and maintained by either individual owners or Homeowner Associations. The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) owns and maintains Illinois Routes 22, 53, 60/83 and 83 and Midlothian Road as they pass through the Village. The Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) owns and maintains Gilmer Road, Old McHenry Road, and Diamond Lake Road.
The Village is currently in the midst of a 15-Year Maintenance Plan to resurface all Village-owned roadways. This plan was started in 2015. In addition to resurfacing, the Village provides snow removal services for these roads. The Village is also responsible for the maintenance of the culverts that cross under these roads.
The Village does not own and maintain a sanitary sewer system and many residences are serviced by private septic systems. In areas where there is public sanitary sewer, the sanitary sewer is owned and maintained by the Lake County Public Works Department.
The Village has a municipal water system that services the historic downtown and surrounding area. Initial construction of the water system was completed with the Sunset Grove Development in the late 2000's. The water system was expanded to service the downtown between 2016 and 2019.
