Planning & Zoning

 

Unlike many municipalities that maintain an in-house Planning and Zoning Department, the Village of Long Grove operates under a limited-government model and does not levy a municipal property tax. As a result, we do not have full-time planning and zoning staff available for daily inquiries.

Instead, the Village contracts with SAFEbuilt LLC, a private firm that provides professional planning and zoning review services. SAFEbuilt assists residents, businesses, and developers by reviewing zoning applications and ensuring that proposed development complies with the Village’s Zoning Code. These services are typically reserved for formal development projects in which an application has been submitted and an escrow account has been established.

While Village Hall staff can assist with general zoning questions, they are not technical experts and may not be able to provide definitive answers to complex or site-specific zoning inquiries.
