Clothing and Textile Collection Program

White textile and clothing collection box (metal)

The Village has installed a collection box in the Archer Municipal Parking Lot at Archer Road and Robert Parker Coffin Road to accept donations of new and gently used clothing and household textiles. The collection program aims at increasing community-wide recycling in partnership with the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO). Accepted items include women’s, men’s, and children’s clothing, coats, hats, backpacks, blankets, towels, and other textiles. Click here for a more detailed list. Please note that shoes, boots, pillows, rugs, cushions, foam mats, and furniture are some of the items that are not accepted. Donations can be placed directly in the box, which is open 24/7, or next to it in sealed plastic bags. Nearly 95% of the materials collected are estimated to be repurposed, reused, or recycled, instead of ending up in our landfills. To learn more, click here.

Clothing and Textile Collection Reminders:

  1. This is a full-circle program. The collection program hopes to receive materials of all kinds including donations of new and gently used materials. New and gently used clothing and textile donations will be reused and will help the continuation of the program, offsetting costs. The program will reuse, repurpose or recycle almost all of the accepted materials collected. It’s a tremendous aspect of this program.
  2. Pillows, Cushions, and Rugs cannot be accepted. The program has been receiving quite a few of these and they cannot currently be reused or recycled, and these items fill up the bins very quickly.
  3. Shoes should be recycled separately through the Reuse-A-Shoe program. The Village of Long Grove does not currently participate in the Reuse-A-Shoe Program. Find where you can donate shoes here.
  4. Please note that the collection program will also pick-up leftovers from community Rummage Sales. If you know of a school, church, or other organization in the community that holds a rummage sale, the program would be happy to help them.
